ĐÀ NẴNG — A border guard ship and medical team from the city’s border guard task group successfully rescued an ill woman from Chàm Islands, off the coast of Hội An ancient town, after receiving an SOS call from island authorities early on November 5 as Typhoon Kalmaegi approached the East Sea.
Another rescue ship from Navy Zone 3 safely towed a fishing boat (DNa 90307TS) with a broken engine to Thọ Quang fishing port on the afternoon of November 5.

Multiple units from the city’s border guard force were deployed to help villagers in Núi Thành Commune reinforce houses and schools and harvest rice in villages in the mountainous La Êê area before Typhoon Kalmaegi was forecast to make landfall in the central region on November 6. All fishing boats at sea were ordered to return to port before 7am on November 5, according to the city’s Storm and Flood Prevention Centre.

The centre said the coastal region from Đà Nẵng to Đắk Lắk (the former Bình Định Province zone) would be affected by the typhoon with wind speeds of 62 to 88 kilometres per hour and gusts of 118 to 133 kilometres per hour.

It also forecast heavy rainfall of between 200mm and 400mm across the region.
Land clearance and traffic recovery efforts have continued in mountainous areas, Hội An and along the coastal dyke system since last week, the centre reported. — VNS
