HÀ NỘI — No Vietnamese citizens have been affected by the recent severe floods, torrential rain, tornadoes and landslides that have caused significant casualties and property damage in parts of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Việt Nam said on Thursday.

Responding to reporters' questions on the natural disasters and the situation of Vietnamese nationals in the affected areas, the ministry's spokeswoman Phạm Thu Hằng said Việt Nam had extended its sympathies to the Chinese leadership and was closely following developments.

On Wednesday, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee and State President Tô Lâm, together with Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, sent messages of sympathy to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi Jinping, and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, conveying condolences over the heavy losses caused by the catastrophes.

On the same day, Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung also sent a message of sympathy to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs. Earlier, Minister Trung had sent a separate message to Chen Gang, Secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China.

"Once again, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Government and people of China, especially the people of Guangxi, over the hardships and losses caused by these natural disasters," Hằng said.

The spokeswoman said Việt Nam's representative missions in the country were continuously updating information and closely monitoring the disaster situation.

According to the latest reports, no Vietnamese citizens have so far been affected by the recent disasters.

The missions are maintaining close coordination with local authorities while remaining ready to implement timely and necessary citizen protection measures should any Vietnamese nationals require assistance.

The ministry also advised Vietnamese citizens in China who encounter difficulties or require emergency support to contact the foreign ministry's citizen protection hotline or the emergency hotlines of Việt Nam's representative missions in China for guidance and assistance. — VNS
