Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) officially launched its Kuala Lumpur–Phú Quốc service on September 1, with one round trip a day. The new service provides travellers with another direct option between Malaysia and Phú Quốc and marks the airline’s entry into the Malaysian market.

Full-service connection between Kuala Lumpur and Phú Quốc

The Kuala Lumpur–Phú Quốc route has a scheduled flight time of approximately 95 minutes each way. Flight 9G751 departs Phú Quốc at 1:45 p.m. and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 4:20 p.m. local time. In the opposite direction, flight 9G750 leaves Kuala Lumpur at 5:20 p.m. and lands in Phú Quốc at 5:55 p.m. local time.

On the new route, SPA offers its “Resort in the Sky” service, with complimentary checked baggage, a light meal and beverages included in the fare.

The airline’s new-generation cabins feature wireless inflight entertainment (IFE), while its La Festa fragrance, originally created for the five-star La Festa Phú Quốc, Curio Collection by Hilton, is also used on board.

For passengers departing from Phú Quốc, the experience begins before boarding, with access to services across the Sun Group ecosystem, including hotel check-in and the Sun Executive Lounge.

Passengers receive welcome gifts from the airline

The SPA experience also extends beyond the flight through privileges at Sun Group’s hospitality and entertainment facilities. Eligible passengers presenting their SPA boarding pass can receive a complimentary Sun World Hon Thom cable car ticket, access WOW Pass priority services at Sun World Hon Thom and savings of up to 30 per cent at participating Sun Group resorts, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Also from September 1, SPA is introducing the “Chạm Việt Nam, Kết nối ngay” programme, under which eligible international passengers receive a complimentary 5GB eSIM for use on the airline’s flights, allowing them to stay connected after arriving in Việt Nam. Each valid passport is eligible for one eSIM within a 30-day period, subject to the programme’s terms and conditions.

A new link to support two-way travel between Việt Nam and Malaysia

Inaugural flight celebrations were held simultaneously at Phú Quốc International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In Kuala Lumpur, Tourism Malaysia hosted activities to welcome the inaugural flight, attended by representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia.

The celebrations at both ends of the route reflect broader efforts to strengthen air connectivity, support two-way visitor flows and deepen tourism ties between Việt Nam and Malaysia as Malaysia rolls out its Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

Việt Nam welcomed 369,350 Malaysian visitors in the first seven months of 2026, up 21.6 per cent year on year. Passenger traffic from Kuala Lumpur to Phú Quốc reached approximately 70,400 during the period, equivalent to 76 per cent of the route’s total passenger volume for all of 2025.

SPA’s new service gives Malaysian travellers another direct option for reaching Phú Quốc, while also making Kuala Lumpur more accessible to travellers from Việt Nam.

As part of SPA’s hub-and-spoke network strategy centred on Phú Quốc, the Kuala Lumpur–Phú Quốc service adds a direct link to the Malaysian market and creates opportunities to attract international travellers connecting through Kuala Lumpur to the island.

With a short flight time, Phú Quốc’s visa-free policy allowing eligible international visitors to stay for up to 30 days, and its growing tourism and hospitality infrastructure, the island is positioned to attract more visitors from Malaysia and other regional markets.

Kuala Lumpur becomes SPA’s seventh international destination, following Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Chengdu and Bangkok. The airline plans to expand its fleet to 32 aircraft in 2026, including four Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, laying the groundwork for further expansion into medium- and long-haul markets as it advances its “Rise to the World” strategy.
