Combined with the Phú Quốc–Chengdu route, which has been operating since July, SPA now offers seven weekly round-trip flights between Chengdu and Việt Nam, giving travellers greater flexibility to combine multiple destinations in a single itinerary.

The Hồ Chí Minh City–Chengdu route operates four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flight 9G640 departs Hồ Chí Minh City at 16:35 and arrives in Chengdu at 21:05, while return flight 9G641 departs Chengdu at 22:05 and arrives in Hồ Chí Minh City at 00:55 the following day.

Greater access between Chengdu and Việt Nam

To mark the launch, SPA is offering group travel discounts on the Hồ Chí Minh City–Chengdu route. The promotion is available from August 4 to September 4, 2026, for flights operating between August 12, 2026 and March 31, 2027.

Groups of two receive a 15 per cent discount, while groups of three or more receive a 20 per cent discount.

With two nonstop routes between Chengdu and Việt Nam now in operation, travellers from Southwest China can choose to begin their journey in Hồ Chí Minh City before continuing to Phú Quốc, or combine both destinations in one itinerary.

The new connection also gives Vietnamese travellers direct access to Chengdu, a major economic, cultural and aviation hub in Southwest China.

Building a multi-destination network

The two Chengdu routes form part of SPA’s broader strategy for expanding its China network. Rather than connecting individual Chinese cities only with Phú Quốc, the airline is developing a network designed to support multi-destination travel across Việt Nam.

Lê Hoàng Nam, a frequent traveller between Việt Nam and China, said punctuality and service quality were important factors when choosing an airline.

“Today’s flight was smooth from start to finish, with fast check-in, friendly crew and good food. I think this will be a strong option for business travellers like me,” he said.

Multi-destination itineraries made easier with Sun PhuQuoc Airways

Li Na, a visitor from Chengdu, said her family planned to spend several days in Hồ Chí Minh City before travelling to Phú Quốc.

“Having direct flights from Chengdu with SPA makes the trip much easier to plan. Today’s flight was comfortable and the service exceeded my expectations,” she said.

On the new route, SPA provides its full-service offering, including checked baggage and in-flight meals according to fare class, wireless in-flight entertainment and onboard services designed to enhance the passenger experience.

Sun Signature members can also earn points on every flight and redeem them for benefits across the Sun Group ecosystem, including aviation, resorts, dining and entertainment.

Expanding access to Southwest China

With a population of more than 1.4 billion, China remains an important market for Việt Nam’s tourism sector and a strategic priority in SPA’s international network expansion. Chengdu, meanwhile, serves as a major gateway to Sichuan and other provinces in Southwest China.

By adding Hồ Chí Minh City to its Chengdu network alongside Phú Quốc, SPA is seeking to provide travellers with more options for visiting Việt Nam and to strengthen air connectivity between the two markets.

Building on its existing connections with China, SPA plans to expand its network to Shanghai, Shenzhen and other major Chinese cities. The airline is also planning further international routes to markets including Malaysia, India, Japan, Russia and Kazakhstan, gradually widening Phú Quốc’s access to international source markets.

From September 2026, the introduction of Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft is expected to support the airline’s medium- and long-haul expansion, contributing to SPA’s broader “Rise to the World” strategy.

Through the expansion of its international network, SPA aims to strengthen Phú Quốc’s position as an international tourism destination while providing travellers with more convenient connections between Việt Nam and key markets across Asia and beyond.
