ĐÀ NẴNG — More than 300 women including individuals from an ethnic group in the central city and Quảng Nam Province will be given knowledge and experience help in establishing ‘green’ and circular economies, courtesy of the EU-funded livelihood improvement project from 2025-28.
The project, will provide a total fund of 999,792 euros (more than US$1 million), or VNĐ27 billion in supporting and improving practical skills for women in the fishing community in Thọ Quang Ward and Hoà Bắc commune in Đà Nẵng City, and Tư commune in Quảng Nam province.
It aims to increase incomes by a third for women working within a ‘green’ and circular economy model, while 70 per cent of the women from the group are already aware of the sustainable economic development in contribution to natural resources and rich biodiversity protection at localities in Đà Nẵng and Quảng Nam.
The programme will also help raise a fund of nearly VNĐ2 billion in reserve for women members who show clear improvement in their incomes based on ‘green’ and circular economy rules.
Host Gonzalo Serrano said the project is a fantastic opportunity, but it will be a challenge in achieving the target by 2028.
He highly appreciated the efforts made by Đà Nẵng City in promoting ecology directives, especially among disadvantaged women and people with disabilities to reach sustainable goals.
The project is one of nine EU-funded projects in Việt Nam, and will help share experience in implementation of the project among local and central women unions, promoting the role of women in environment and biodiversity protection.
A community-based educational experience tourism service in Hoà Bắc commune, 40km from Đà Nẵng downtown, is seen as the first example of putting green and sustainable systems into practice.
