HÀ NỘI — Health authorities have ordered hospitals and provincial health departments nationwide to staff emergency rooms around the clock during the five-day National Day holiday, aiming to ensure no patient is turned away or left waiting for care.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Health's Medical Examination and Treatment Management Authority, requires medical facilities to be ready throughout the break to receive and treat emergencies, accidents and poisoning cases.

Hospitals unable to handle a case themselves must first stabilise the patient and clearly explain the situation to the patient and family before referring them elsewhere, the authority said.

It also directed hospitals to coordinate with police and other emergency responders on traffic accidents and mass-casualty incidents, and to report major developments, including disease outbreaks, disasters or mass poisonings, immediately by hotline, followed by a written report, so that higher authorities can direct the response without delay.

Bạch Mai Hospital said it would keep both its main Hà Nội campus and its Ninh Bình facility fully staffed for emergencies throughout the holiday.

Director Đào Xuân Cơ said every department had drawn up contingency plans to keep clinical operations running without interruption, with emergency response treated as the hospital's top priority during the break.

At the Hà Nội campus, the A9 Emergency Centre will maintain round-the-clock staffing to triage and treat patients under a strict no-refusal, no-delay policy, the hospital said.

In Ninh Bình, its emergency, intensive care and toxicology units will likewise remain fully staffed to handle cases from local residents and surrounding areas. — VNS
