Flash floods kill one, leave four missing in Lai Châu

HÀ NỘI — One person has died and four others, including two children, are missing after flash floods swept through Mường Than Commune in the northern province of Lai Châu on Friday, according to reports from the communal police.

The deceased, identified as a man in his forties, was found in Mường Mít hydroelectric reservoir.

Searches are ongoing for the four missing people, a 31-year-old Lò Văn Chương, resident of Chít village, 22-year old Phạm Thị Liên, resident of Than Uyên Commune, as well as 11-year-old Phạm Bảo Châm and eight-year-old Phạm Xuân Trường.

The stretch of National Highway 32 passing through the Chít village is currently inundated, blocked by debris and impassable for vehicles.

Damage to households and property is being reviewed by the authorities. More update to follow. — VNS
