KON TUM — The application of digital technology to agriculture and production can facilitate technological collaboration between the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) region and HCM City, Kon Tum Province’s People's Committee vice chairman Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm said at a meeting held on Friday (November 29).

The HCM City People's Committee, in collaboration with the Kon Tum Province’s People's Committee, organised a scientific workshop to examine the potential for digital transformation in agriculture and explore avenues for technological collaboration between localities in the Central Highlands region and the city.

The workshop aims to facilitate the convergence of technology providers and consumers in the region and the city, addressing the increasing demand for digital and green transformation.

The workshop seeks to contribute to the development of a robust digital ecosystem in the Central Highlands, including the five provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk, Đắk Nông and Lâm Đồng, and HCM City.

Nguyễn Xuân Hoàng, acting director of the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said digital transformation is becoming an indispensable development trend in all fields in today's economy.

The city is a leader in digital transformation, and agriculture is one of the city’s industries prioritised for digital transformation in its smart city project.

“Applying digital transformation in agriculture helps optimise production, increase competitiveness and minimise environmental impact,” he said.

During the workshop, leaders, managers, experts, scientists, businesses, and organisations engaged in discussions regarding strategies to advance digital transformation within the agricultural sector.

They focused on enhancing the integration of science and technology in agricultural production, as well as proposing guidelines and solutions for digital transformation, green transformation, and the development of a sustainable digital economy tailored to the needs of local communities.

Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Province People's Committee Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm expressed optimism regarding the potential for digital transformation to catalyse significant advancements in the agricultural sector of the Central Highlands and HCM City.

With the participation of experts, scientists and local authorities, the region can achieve rapid and sustainable development, resulting in increased value-addition and efficiency, he said.

The integration of digital technology and automation across the entire agricultural value chain from farming and production to processing, distribution, and consumption, will transform the management, production, and consumption of agricultural products, shifting from traditional methods to modern, intelligent practices.

This evolution will further create numerous opportunities for technological collaboration between the Central Highlands and the city, specifically in the production and consumption of agricultural goods, while also contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the regions connected to the city.

Central Highlands farmers boost digital transformation

The Central Highlands region has significant potential and advantages regarding land, climate, and soil conditions for developing large-scale, modern agriculture.

Recently, localities in the Central Highlands have gradually introduced "digital technology" through exemplary smart agriculture models, creating a complete digital agriculture ecosystem aimed at sustainable development.

Instead of relying solely on experience to care for durians, durian farmers now use a mobile app to adjust their care methods based on information about soil moisture, environmental temperature and pH levels collected from sensors installed in the garden.

Digital technology is not only applied in agricultural production but also in product consumption and promotion.

By scanning a QR code, users can access detailed product information, alerts about counterfeit risks, and recommendations regarding expiration dates.

Many localities in the region are testing an agricultural information management system.

The system helps reduce paperwork, save time, and assists residents in accessing agricultural information via mobile apps.

It also serves as a tool for monitoring and managing the entire agricultural sector, integrating with shared databases to facilitate the use of various digital solutions.

The region’s agricultural products from the Central Highlands have increasingly emerged on digital platforms, adopting the rapid growth of e-commerce.

As a result, these products can easily reach consumers, enhancing their value and expanding both domestic and international markets, while promoting the transition from "agricultural production" to "agricultural economy" in the Central Highlands region. — VNS
