Vietnamese athletes win more six golds at SEA Games 33

THAILAND — The Vietnamese sports delegation secured six gold medals on Tuesday at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

Rowing provided the first gold medal when Lê Thị Hiền, Dư Thị Bông, Hà Thị Vui, and Phạm Thị Ngọc Anh claimed victory in the women’s heavyweight coxless four event, finishing with a time of seven minutes 58.19 seconds - well ahead of their closest competitor, Thailand, which recorded eight minutes 03.515 seconds.

Following the rowing success, kickboxer Hoàng Thị Thùy Giang delivered further triumph by winning the gold medal in the women’s point fighting 50kg category.

"This gold medal is not just mine but belongs to my teammates and Vietnamese kickboxing. I dedicate this victory to coach Lâm Nguyễn Triều Sa and my hometown. Despite struggling with an ankle injury during preparation, I persevered to bring glory to our country," Giang stated.

The head coach of the kickboxing team, Sa, remarked, "This year’s event has been challenging, but the entire team remained highly determined. Giang's injury was managed through a combination of treatment and adjustments to her training plan, enabling her to achieve this success. I am incredibly proud of the athletes' efforts and courage."

In another kickboxing match, Nguyễn Quang Huy performed impressively, defeating his Thai opponent to win the final in the men's 57kg category.

Nguyễn Thị Oanh has completed a hat-trick of gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games.

Athletics also celebrated notable achievements, with Nguyễn Thị Oanh and Bùi Thị Kim Anh making headlines. Oanh won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes 13.74 seconds, completing a hat-trick of gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games and bringing her total gold medal count to 15. Meanwhile, Anh secured the gold medal in the high jump with a leap of 1.86m.

The final gold medal came from esports, where Việt Nam triumphed over Laos 4-0 in the women's team event of Mobile Legends.

As of 8pm on Tuesday, the Vietnamese delegation brought home 46 gold medals, 54 silver medals, and 74 bronze medals, remaining in the top three of the regional event.
