HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese striker Nguyễn Công Phượng has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the J1 League in Việt Nam for the 2025 season. In this role, he will participate in promotional activities following Việt Nam's acquisition of broadcasting rights for matches from Japan's top-tier football league over the next three seasons.
Phượng, who hails from Nghệ An, previously spent several years playing in Japan. He began his journey with Mito Hollyhock FC in 2016 before moving to Yokohama FC. His contract with Yokohama ended after two years, during which he played for the J2 League club from December 2022 to September 2024.
During his time in Japan, the 29-year-old struggled to make a significant impact, spending much of his time on the bench. Over two seasons, he was only on the field for a total of 85 minutes and did not score or assist any goals, although he did receive one yellow card.
Phượng now is playing for Trường Tươi Bình Phước FC in V.League 2. VNS
