HÀ NỘI — The seventh Overseas Vietnamese World Golf Championship is set to take place in Hải Phòng City from January 9 to 11.
Hosted at Dragon Golf Links and Vinpearl Golf Hải Phòng, the event has attracted nearly 100 participants from 16 countries and territories.
At a press conference in Hà Nội, Nguyễn Mạnh Đông, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV) and head of the organising committee, emphasised the growth of the overseas Vietnamese (OV) community in recent years. He noted their influential role in the politics, economy and society of over 130 countries and territories.
Efforts to enhance national solidarity have seen significant progress through activities organised by the SCOV, fostering trust and connections between the community and their homeland, he added.
Launched in 2015, the tournament aims to provide a platform for OV golf enthusiasts to come together and enrich the ways in which the global Vietnamese community can connect.
"This is more than just a sporting event; it is an opportunity to strengthen bonds within the OV community worldwide and reinforce their solidarity," Đông emphasised.
The tournament marks the beginning of a series of events planned for OVs this year. It is organised by the SCOV under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with various agencies and localities.
Following the tournament, the Xuân Quê Hương (Homeland Spring) event will take place, marking the largest cultural and diplomatic gathering for OVs during the Lunar New Year holiday. This flagship programme is scheduled to take place in Hà Nội from January 18 to 21, aligning with the 19th to 22nd days of the last lunar month in the Year of the Dragon. VNS
