HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam Education Publishing House (VEPH), an educational publisher that produces general education textbooks for public school students in grades 1 to 12, has taken several steps to digitise its operations and products as part of the national push for digital transformation.

The moves aim to enhance VEPH's service quality and meet demands for innovation in education and training.

According to editor-in-chief Phạm Vĩnh Thái, the publishing house's digitisation efforts have been made across three key pillars: corporate management, publishing activities and the provision of educational services.

Its internal management system has been gradually digitised, from the editorial, publishing and distribution processes to financial, data management and operational administration.

Key textbook sets have been digitised, and a digital publishing ecosystem has been developed, featuring solutions that support the distribution and use of digital learning materials.

"Digital transformation has created a vital foundation for the VEPH to improve our product quality, expand access to learning materials and effectively serve teachers, students and educational institutions nationwide," said Thái.

"It also provides a basis for us to continue our partnerships with the education sector to build a digital education system."

Enhanced learning experience

According to Thái, the publishing house has not just created digital versions of printed textbooks, but also offers multimedia features such as videos, images, audio, interactive exercises and reference materials.

The VEPH has collaborated with leading educational technology companies to develop these features, which aim to make teachers' work more efficient and enhance learning experiences for students.

The digital learning materials are designed to align closely with the general education curriculum and specific learning outcomes for each subject and grade level, helping to reduce the time teachers spend designing teaching materials and giving them the flexibility to adjust content to suit the specific needs of different groups.

In addition, the publishing house's digital learning platforms are updated constantly to make sure they contain consistent and up-to-date learning resources, Thái noted.

"Integrating learning resources with electronic textbooks and management platforms helps create a flexible teaching and learning environment that supports in-person, online and hybrid learning models," he said.

"This is a crucial factor in enhancing education quality amid the rapid growth of digital learning."

The VEPH recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Association of Educational Books and Electronic Learning Materials to review, assess and refine its digital textbooks and learning materials.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Association of Educational Books and Electronic Learning Materials in Hà Nội at the end of July to review the quality of its digitised learning products.

The association will mobilise a team of experts to evaluate the quality and technological applicability of these products before they are launched on VEPH's digital platforms, which are key to determining learner experiences and set quality standards for the development of digital learning materials.

At the signing ceremony at the end of July, Nguyễn Tiến Thanh, VEPH director highlighted the importance of the cooperation as digital transformation is bringing about profound changes in education.

"Today’s learners access knowledge not only through printed books but also through various forms of digital learning materials that offer increasing levels of interactivity, up-to-date content and personalisation, said Thanh.

However, while technology evolves rapidly, the quality of education must always remain the top priority, he added.

"Every digital learning resource must be factually accurate, aligned with the curriculum, pedagogically sound, user-friendly and adaptable to technological advancements. That's why this cooperation is of great practical significance."

Association chairman Dr Nguyễn Khắc Khanh said that establishing a comprehensive, unified and modern digital knowledge ecosystem is not merely a matter of education or publishing, but also one of national digital information sovereignty.

"To safeguard that sovereignty, we must build a Vietnamese digital learning resource ecosystem – one where educational content is of high quality, data is securely managed, copyrights are protected and Vietnamese knowledge is disseminated across digital platforms," he said.

"The collaboration between the association and the Vietnam Education Publishing House will create mutual strength to gradually build this national digital knowledge infrastructure and contribute to fostering a learning society, developing a skilled workforce and enhancing Việt Nam's competitiveness in the digital era."

Future plans

As digital skills are crucial for learners in this area, digital transformation will also remain a key development direction for the VEPH, said editor-in-chief Thái.

A major operational focus identified for the remaining rest of the year is to strengthen collaboration among the publisher's departments on digital transformation and encourage AI application in editorial work, publishing, distribution, customer service and corporate management.

The publishing house's trade union will launch intensive emulation campaigns to foster creative efforts and technical improvements to achieve the 2026 production and business plans.

Apart from product digitisation, VEPH will continue to build a comprehensive digital education ecosystem centred on learners and teachers, using data and technology as a foundation to improve service quality.

"Our top priority is to further refine our digital learning ecosystem, making it increasingly diverse, intelligent, personalised and user-friendly," said Thái.

The VEPH will also expand the application of AI to enhance editorial processes, data management, material search and recommendation capabilities, as well as to support teachers' lesson planning and the overall user learning experience.

The publisher plans to strengthen cooperation with regulatory bodies, educational institutions, technology enterprises and domestic and international partners to research and develop advanced educational solutions tailored to Việt Nam's specific conditions, Thái added.

“We hope that by building on our established foundation and further leveraging digital technology and AI, VEPH will continue to fulfil its role as the nation’s key educational publisher, providing high-quality educational products and services while actively contributing to the reform of general education and the development of a digital education system in Việt Nam,” he said. — VNS
