HCM CITY — Authorities have called for an acceleration of major transport infrastructure projects, including metro lines, ring roads and expressways, as the city moves to meet deadlines set by the Government.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Được has urged heads of departments, investors and relevant units to mobilise resources and ensure progress on key projects in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
The request follows the city’s implementation of Notice No 166 issued after a Government inspection of the Long Thành International Airport project and its connecting transport routes.
Among priority projects, Ring Road 3 and the Biên Hòa – Vũng Tàu Expressway are required to be fully completed and put into operation before June 30.
Ring Road 3 was initially scheduled for technical opening by December 31, 2025, with full operation targeted for April 30. However, delays in site clearance and shortages of construction materials have pushed the completion deadline to June 30.
Similarly, the Biên Hòa – Vũng Tàu Expressway, which broke ground in June 2023 and was expected to begin partial operation in March, has faced setbacks due to labour shortages, rising material and fuel costs, and land clearance issues.
For urban rail, the city has set a target to complete Metro Line No 2 from Bến Thành Market to Tham Lương and put it into operation by 2030.
Meanwhile, the Bến Thành – Thủ Thiêm metro section is required to complete investment procedures to be ready for construction before April 30. The Thủ Thiêm – Long Thành railway project is also expected to accelerate investment preparation, aiming to break ground before June 30.
City leaders stressed that further delays would result in accountability measures for heads of responsible units.
The municipal People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Finance and the Department of Construction to monitor and supervise progress, and to advise the city on timely measures to ensure both the schedule and quality of the projects. — VNS
