ĐỒNG THÁP — Đồng Tháp Province is stepping up investment in power infrastructure and renewable energy while promoting efficient energy use to strengthen energy security.

These are key tasks identified by the province People's Committee’s Plan No. 1205 to implement Politburo Resolution No. 70 dated August 20, 2025, on ensuring national energy security through 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The Cửu Long (Mekong) province is also strengthening state management of energy and implementing power projects in line with approved plans.

Its overall goal is to ensure reliable energy supplies while safeguarding national defence and security and protecting the environment.

The province is focusing on efficient use of energy resources, promoting energy saving and raising awareness among authorities, sectors and residents about the role of energy in socio-economic development.

In 2026, it aims to ensure sufficient energy supplies for socio-economic development and maintain safe electricity supplies.

Energy savings are expected to account for about 5 per cent of total final energy consumption, with renewable energy targeted to make up about 25 per cent of total primary energy supply.

Greenhouse gas emissions from energy activities are expected to fall by about 6 per cent.

The province is accelerating work to put key power grid projects into operation in the final months of the year.

In the fourth quarter of this year, Power Transmission Company No. 4 has been tasked with completing several 220kV projects ahead of schedule.

They include the 220kV Gò Công, Lấp Vò and Hồng Ngự substations, each with a capacity of 250MVA, along with their connecting lines.

At the 110kV level, the province plans to build new substations and connecting lines in Châu Thành, Thanh Bình, Lấp Vò and Tân Thành communes.

The projects are expected to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution capacity, meet demand and facilitate production and business activities.

Đồng Tháp is also promoting renewable energy.

It has put the 100MW Tân Phú Đông 1 Wind Power Plant and 50MW Tân Phú Đông 2 Wind Power Plant into operation.

The two projects contribute electricity to the national grid and increase the share of clean energy sources.

The province is also calling for investment in the 100MW Tân Thành wind power area and inviting investors to study and develop tidal energy.

For rooftop solar power, the province is encouraging households, businesses and agencies to develop systems for self-generation and self-consumption.

Under its plan on electricity saving and rooftop solar power development this year, state agencies and public service units must develop quarterly electricity-saving plans, use more high-efficiency equipment and apply digital technology to monitor consumption.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to install rooftop solar systems combined with battery energy storage systems and solar water-heating systems.

For public, advertising and outdoor decorative lighting, management units must develop electricity-saving plans and aim to cut consumption by at least 30 per cent.

Manufacturing businesses, particularly major energy consumers, are required to develop energy management plans, participate in electricity demand-response programmes and arrange production to limit electricity use during peak hours.

The province also considers administrative reform important to promoting energy-sector development.

It has asked relevant agencies to review and reform procedures, proposing that competent authorities cut at least 30 per cent of implementation time, compliance costs and business conditions. — VNS
