HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam has decided to provide US$100,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to Colombia to support recovery efforts following a devastating earthquake that killed hundreds of people earlier this month.

The assistance from the Vietnamese State and people aims to help the Colombian Government and people address the disaster’s consequences and restore normal living conditions as soon as possible.

The decision was made in response to the significant loss of life and property caused by the magnitude of the earthquake on August 10, 2026, and reflects the traditional friendship, solidarity and mutual support between the peoples of Việt Nam and Colombia.

According to the latest report released by Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) on August 18, the earthquake had killed 304 people, injured 4,548 and left 426 others missing.

The disaster damaged more than 134,340 houses and destroyed another 29,550, while 267 high-rise buildings collapsed.

It also affected 303 healthcare facilities, 3,440 educational establishments and 3,905 public facilities, five airports and many other facilities. — VNS
