ĐÀ NẴNG — Facing a complex flood situation in the southern mountainous region, Military Region 5 on Monday set up a forward command in Trà My Commune to lead relief and rescue efforts.

The command, led by Colonel Nguyễn Văn Hòa, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, comprises 29 members tasked with coordinating the armed forces alongside ministries, local authorities and departments to respond to floods and landslides.

So far, the unit has deployed 19 vehicles and mobilised 2,453 personnel, including 142 soldiers, 742 militia members, 315 commune police officers, and 1,254 local disaster response team members.

As heavy rains began last week, the Trà My Area Defence Command coordinated with relevant units to evacuate 377 households, relocating 1,559 residents to safe areas and helping to limit flood damage.

Colonel Hòa directed all units to complete preparations swiftly and deploy forces urgently, working continuously to reach affected residents as quickly as possible. He stressed the importance of dividing authority and command responsibilities across specific areas and maintaining close coordination with other forces to ensure effective flood response and recovery operations. — VNS
