ĐẮK LẮK — Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình has requested authorities at all levels in Đắk Lắk Province to continue mobilising all available resources, giving priority to ensuring the safety and health of local people.
At midnight on Saturday, a Government working delegation led by the deputy PM visited Đông Hòa Ward of Đắk Lắk Province – one of the localities hardest hit by the floods – to encourage and direct efforts to overcome the consequences of recent natural disasters.
Visiting and presenting gifts to residents rescued from severely flooded areas in Đông Hòa Ward, the Deputy PM expressed his care and encouraged people to make every effort to overcome immediate difficulties and quickly stabilise their lives after the floods.
Regarding long-term livelihoods, the Party and the State will provide support to restore production and ensure local people’s living conditions.
Deputy PM Bình also asked authorities at all levels in Đắk Lắk to continue concentrating all resources, with priority given to protecting the safety and health of the population.
During his visit to armed forces units and volunteer teams involved in flood prevention, control and disaster recovery, he encouraged them to continue overcoming all difficulties and work with the highest determination to support residents and minimise flood-related losses.
According to statistics as of 4pm on Friday, November 21, floods and landslides in Đắk Lắk Province have caused multiple deaths and missing persons; more than 200,000 houses have been inundated, with over 18,000 households having to be evacuated. A total of 358 schools and ten medical stations have been flooded or damaged.
In addition, more than 63,000 hectares of short-term crops and over 100,000 hectares of perennial crops have been affected; more than 3.5 million livestock and poultry have died or been swept away, with estimated losses of around VNĐ700 billion (US$26.5 million). Approximately 127,000 out of 181,349 aquaculture cages and 1,000 hectares of brackish-water shrimp and mollusc farming areas have been damaged, with total losses estimated at around VNĐ2,000 billion ($75.8 million). — VNS
