HÀ NỘI — Passengers travelling through Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội are being offered a unique glimpse of Vietnamese culture through a series of art and cultural activities.

Vietnamese traditional art performances take place every evening at Terminal T2.

The programme, themed 'Journey of Love', runs until January 10 as part of celebrations marking the inauguration of the expanded Terminal T2. It transforms the airport into more than a transit point, inviting travellers to experience heritage alongside modern aviation.

In Terminal T2's departure area, passengers can admire a lacquer painting collection that highlights the traditional sơn ta material and the meticulous craftsmanship behind this art form. A particular highlight is the pair of large-scale lacquered wooden sculptures entitled Con Rồng Cháu Tiên (Children of the Dragon, Grandchildren of the Fairy). Together, these works create a striking contrast between the contemplative character of cultural heritage and the dynamic pace of international travel.

Complementing this display is the grand installation 'Eternal Spring', dominated by the image of a sacred dragon stretching more than 80 metres. Surrounding the dragon is the 'Essence of Việt' space, which celebrates renowned traditional crafts such as Vạn Phúc silk, bamboo and rattan weaving, conical hats and flute kites. The exhibition also highlights the cultural diversity of Việt Nam’s 54 ethnic groups. Adding depth to the tableau is a replica of an ancient moss-covered Northern house, evoking the rustic simplicity of traditional life within the bustling setting of the terminal.

The cultural atmosphere is further enriched by the sounds of traditional musical instruments, performed in evening concerts. Passengers are surprised with gifts on the baggage carousels at Terminals T1 and T2, while children under 12 receive presents in the departure lounges.

According to airport management, the inauguration and expansion of Terminal T2 represents more than an improvement in infrastructure. It is seen as an opportunity to redefine the airport experience.

Through this series of cultural and artistic events, Nội Bài International Airport positions itself not merely as a gateway for travellers, but as a vibrant cultural space that honours tradition and shares it with the world. — VNS
