HCM CITY — Painting is a "quiet interval" for female police officer Bùi Thị Hải Dương’s soul, where she can heal, find balance and gain strength to rise above the chaos of life.
Dương said: “I paint for stillness.”
The artist is showcasing a collection of 39 acrylic paintings at her debut solo exhibition titled Những Giọt Nắng Thầm Thì (Whispering Sunlight) in HCM City.
The paintings, which she finished in 10 months, do not follow any art movement or any specific style. They reflect what touches the depth of the artist’s heart, and what she sees and experiences.
Dương said: “My inner world varies from a gentle azure to a vast jade green, sometimes drifts like a Pacific Ocean in the afternoon, other times looks like a misty mountain in late winter.”
She added that each colour is derived from spontaneous improvisation and heartbeat, and each brushstroke is a touch upon the emotions, leading her through her own universe.
She emphasises that each person feels the world in his/her own way, so she does not want to impose her views on them. “Let's imagine and feel.”

Art researcher Vũ Huy Thông of the Việt Nam Fine Arts commented that although Dương has been involved in painting for three or four years, her collection is impressive.
He added that she is brave to express herself and true to her emotions, which forms a strong artist.
Born in 1985, Dương is currently working at the Culture and Arts Division of the Bureau of Party and Political Affairs under the Ministry of Public Security.
Her passion for painting has emerged after participating in creative camps organised by the ministry.
Dương’s paintings can be viewed at the Lotus Van Art & Community Hub, 99 Nguyễn Thị Thập, Tân Mỹ Ward, until December 31. — VNS
