Norwegian Sentimental Value premieres in Hà Nội within the European Film Festival 2025

HÀ NỘI – A special screening of Sentimental Value, the latest film by acclaimed Norwegian director Joachim Trier, took place at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi on the evening of November 25. The screening was organised under the framework of the European Film Festival in Vietnam 2025 (EUFF 2025).

Sentimental Value is a heartfelt story about family, reconciliation, and rediscovering what truly matters in life. Known for its warmth, humor, and emotional depth, the film has touched audiences across Europe and continues to affirm Joachim Trier’s reputation as one of the leading voices in contemporary European cinema.

Opening the event, Charges d'affaires of the European Union Delegation to Việt Nam, Rafael de Bustamante, underlined the spirit of cooperation and diversity of contemporary European cinema, representing the spirit of the European Union itself.

Expressing her excitement ahead of the Sentimental Value's screening, Ambassador of Norway to Việt Nam, Hilde Solbakken, said “I am thrilled to be here with you tonight - to enjoy a moving Norwegian story on the big screen – on the exact day that we celebrate the establishment of diplomatic relations between Norway and Vietnam, 54 years ago.

"In this context, Sentimental Value is particularly fitting. The film is about connections — between generations, between people, and between cultures. It invites us to reflect on the relationships that shape our lives and the emotional ties that give our lives meaning”.

According to the diplomat, the Norwegian film industry has grown steadily over the years, earning international recognition for its compelling storytelling, innovative direction, and focus on both social issues and human emotions. Among the country's most prominent contemporary directors is Joachim Trier, have been acclaimed worldwide for their emotional depth, subtle humour, and nuanced reflections on modern life.

This year’s European Film Festival in Việt Nam celebrates the richness and creativity of contemporary European cinema. For the first time, EUFF Vietnam joins hands with the LUX Audience Award (an initiative of the European Parliament and the European Film Academy) and the European Film Awards Season 2026 to present some of Europe’s most notable works, emphasising the growing trend of international co-productions across the region and beyond.

The Hà Nội premiere followed a successful screening in Hồ Chí Minh City on November 22, which attracted a large audience of film lovers and cultural partners.

The European Film Festival 2025 runs from November 20 to December 6 in Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City, offering Vietnamese audiences a rich cinematic journey through Europe’s diverse cultures, values, and creative expressions. VNS
