HẬU GIANG — Authorities of the Mekong Delta province of Hậu Giang on Monday received a delegation from Tata International Vietnam Company Limited to discuss agricultural investment in the province.
Jitendra Manghnani, country manager of the company in Việt Nam, Cambodia and Laos, said that Việt Nam was among the five countries with enormous potential in agriculture. He also hoped his company could invest in Hậu Giang province, especially in the field of agricultural mechanisation.
The company is planning to provide free training courses for local farmers and collaborate with cooperatives to introduce technological solutions in agriculture, he added.
At the working session, Trương Cảnh Tuyên, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said that despite infrastructure difficulties, Hậu Giang province had many advantages, such as an abundant workforce, to attract investments.
The Government has allowed the province to zone off about 5,200ha of land for hi-tech agriculture. Hậu Giang has favourable conditions to implement the large-scale field model, as it has more than 170 agricultural cooperatives.
The province is calling for investment in hi-tech agriculture, he said, adding that it is ready to cooperate with Tata International Vietnam in this field.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hậu Giang boasts over 130,000ha of rice and fruit cultivation land and is seeking investment in agricultural products processing. — VNS
