HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam will play Myanmar in a friendly on March 20 as part of their warm up ahead of their 2027 Asian Cup qualification.

The Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) has invited the regular Southeast Asian rival to play at the Bình Dương Province's Gò Đậu Stadium during the FIFA Days time.

Under coach Myo Hlaing Win, Myanmar has played Việt Nam many times, in both regional championships and SEA Games. In their latest game, in the group round of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2025, Việt Nam won 5-0.

In the Asian Cup Việt Nam are drawn in Group F with Laos, Malaysia and Nepal. Myanmar are in Group E with Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Teams will compete in a two-leg round robin format with the strongest advancing to the finals. Việt Nam successfully secured a place in the finals of this cup in 2019 and 2023.

Coach Kim Sang-sik of Việt Nam cut short his time off after helping his squad win Việt Nam's third regional championship title and his first trophy with a national team early this month.

After spending few days with family in South Korea, Kim was back to Việt Nam and attended several national league matches to check on his players' performance.

He said he wanted to make the most of his time and grab out at success as many times as possible with the Vietnamese team, not just leave it as a one off.

Players will have ten days rest for the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday before they are back in competitions, while Kim and his family will enjoy the Vietnamese holiday atmosphere.

The national team will be summoned back to training in early March for their continental contest. VNS
