HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won one gold medal and one bronze at the 2023 29th Asian Junior Road Cycling Championships on Thursday in Rayong, Thailand.

Nguyễn Thị Bé Hồng, 18, finished first in the women's individual time trial event. She completed the 15km race in a time of 23.43min.

Asal Rizaeva of Uzbekistan came second on 23.48 and Lee Chai Roug from Chineses Taipei was third in 23.56.

Phạm Lê Xuân Lộc, 18, pocketed bronze in the men's event. He took 39.43min to finish the 30km race.

Mikhail Podluzhnyy of Kazakhstan was first (38.49min), followed by Muhammad Nurahmat of Indonesia (39.22).

The Vietnamese team will also take part in the 42nd Asian Road Cycling Championship on Friday.

The gold medal hope is defending champion Nguyễn Thị Thật who just won a title at the 32nd SEA Games in May in Cambodia, and Quàng Văn Cường who won gold in the 31st SEA Games in Việt Nam.

"We expect to get the highest results from this tournament. All cyclists including young ones will sharpen their skills," said Nguyễn Ngọc Vũ, general secretary of the Việt Nam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation.

The tournament will end on June 13. — VNS
