PHNOM PENH — Paralifter Nguyễn Văn Hùng won two golds on Tuesday at the ASEAN Para Games 12 held in Cambodia.
In the men’s 72kg category, Hùng succeeded in lifting three registered weights 150kg, 153kg and 155kg. He won two golds in this event for his best lift of 155kg and total lift after three attempts of 458kg.
The silver medal for the total lift went to Win San Aung of Myanmar with 330kg after three attempts, while the silver medal for the weightlifting achievement belonged to Phutachat Panomkhet of Thailand with 132kg.
Earlier, the Vietnamese para lifters won a total of eight gold medals. These were victories for veteran athletes, Lê Văn Công (49kg), Nguyễn Bình An (54kg), Đặng Thị Linh Phượng (50kg) and Châu Hoàng Tuyết Loan (55kg).
Loan broke her own ASEAN Para Games record when she successfully lifted 105kg in the women’s 55kg, breaking her old record of 104kg set at the previous ASEAN Para Games. She won two gold medals in this category for her best lift of 98kg and total lift of 284kg.
Meanwhile, Phượng claimed two golds in the women’s 50kg, breaking the ASEAN Para Games record with the lift of 102kg.
On Tuesday, Herbalife Việt Nam cooperated with the Việt Nam Paralympic Association (VPA) to give cash prizes to Vietnamese athletes winning gold medals at the Games.
