HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won six gold medals during the afternoon session of day two at the 12th ASEAN Para Games on June 4 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Đặng Thị Linh Phượng won two golds in the women's 50kg powerlifting event. After three attempts, she topped the podium with a total lift of 279kg to take the first gold. Her best lift of 95kg was also the heaviest among the four competitors' result.
These were the first golds for the powerlifting team at this year's Games.
Her teammate Lê Văn Công was also successful in the men's 45kg class. Công's best lift of 168kg and total of 496kg ensured him two golds. Công was Việt Nam's first Paralympic champion after his triumph in Rio Games in 2016. He is also the world record holder with a lift of 183.5kg.

Coach Lê Quang Thái said he was moved by his athletes' performances and believed the team would complete their task of winning at least 10 top medals at the Cambodian Games.
Other golds went to swimmer Nguyễn Văn Hạnh in the men's 100m breaststroke SB11 category. Hạnh finished first with a time of 1min 24.03sec.
In athletics, Nguyễn Thị Hải won in women's shot put F57 category. Hải stood out from all other rivals with a throw of 8.6m. She will defend her titles in the javelin and discus in the coming days.
Vietnamese athletes also bagged four silver and eight bronze medals in athletics, swimming and judo.
After two days, Việt Nam are in second in the medal tally with eight golds. Indonesia are top with 14 . Thailand sit in third with five golds. VNS
