Vietnamese swimmers continue to shine at ASEAN Para Games

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese swimmers continued to shine at the ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia on Wednesday.

Trịnh Thị Bích Như outstanding efforts say her bring home two gold medals.

In the women’s 50m butterfly, classified S6, Như finished first after clocking a time of 41.50secs. While in the women’s 100m breaststroke, classified SB5, she also beat rivals with a time of 1:51.77.

Earlier, the veteran swimmer also claimed a gold medal in the women’s 200m medley, classified SM6.

Following Như’s performance on Wednesday, Phạm Thành Đạt made a strong sprint to finish in first place in the men’s 50m butterfly, S8, with a time of 30.25secs to win the gold medal.

In this category, Malaysian athlete Rusdianto Rusmadi finished second with a time of 30.69secs, while Anh Khoa came third with a time of 30.75secs.

Lê Tiến Đạt, classified SB6, took the gold medal after finishing first in the men's 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:33.69, while Đạt’s teammate Đỗ Thanh Hải won the silver medal.

The other gold medal of the swimming team went to Nguyễn Thị Sari, classified SB4, in the women's 100m breaststroke.

In the women's 100m breaststroke, classified SB6, Vi Thị Hằng bagged a gold medal after defeating rivals from Indonesia.

It was the third gold medal Hằng has won at this year’s Games.

In athletics, married couple Nguyễn Thị Hải and Cao Ngọc Hùng once again dominated the regional event.

Hải closed the Games in Cambodia with a gold medal in the F57 women's discus throw, thereby completing her gold hat trick. While Hùng won gold in the F57 men's javelin throw with his result of 43.72m.

Kiều Minh Trung won gold in the men's javelin throw, classified F55, with his attempt of 27.1m. While Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thúy earned a gold medal in the F54 women's discus throw with her attempt of 14.43m.

In other news, Đinh Thảo Duyên also brought home a gold in the women's long jump, classified T12, with her achievement of 3.88m.

Earlier, the paralifting team finished their competition with 10 gold, six silver and six bronze medals. VNS
