HCM CITY — Rising investor participation, increasing market liquidity and growing capitalisation are opening new opportunities for market innovation, investment growth and the development of a more dynamic securities ecosystem, experts said at the Việt Nam Securities Tech Summit, which opened in HCM City on August 21.
The event brought together more than 300 regulators, representatives of stock exchanges and securities firms, technology leaders and fintech innovators to address key priorities shaping the future of Việt Nam’s securities market.
The expanding potential of Việt Nam’s securities market requires modernisation of technology infrastructure, enhanced data quality, management innovation and stronger supervisory capacity to build an open, transparent, safe and efficient market, said Lê Văn Phương, deputy director general of the Department of Technology and Digital Transformation at the State Securities Commission (SSC).
In the financial and securities sector, digital transformation and the development of a securities market built on connected data and secure digital infrastructure are not merely about adopting new technologies. They represent a comprehensive overhaul of management practices, market operations and service delivery for investors, Phương said.
The SSC is focusing on modernising technology infrastructure and trading systems, building a synchronised digital data ecosystem, enhancing market supervision capabilities, securing data and protecting digital infrastructure, he said.
The commission will promote the application of digital technologies in management, inspection and supervision to improve the early detection of anomalies and manage risks more effectively, ensuring that the market operates transparently and safely, he said.
As Việt Nam moves towards deeper international integration, modernising technology infrastructure and strengthening data-driven operations have become essential to enhancing market competitiveness and helping meet the criteria for upgrading Việt Nam’s securities market in line with international practices, he added.
Many experts noted that the rapid development of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and big data offers opportunities for breakthroughs in operational efficiency and investor experience, but also presents major challenges related to cybersecurity, data security and risk governance.
Discussions focused on measures to secure financial data infrastructure, strengthen cyber defence capabilities, protect customer information and maintain system continuity. Such measures are critical safeguards for ensuring the stability and sustainable growth of Việt Nam’s securities market in the digital era.
The discussions also highlighted cutting-edge applications of AI, big data and next-generation technologies in trading, clearing, workflow automation and investor services.
Alongside the conference programme, the event included an exhibition showcasing a diverse range of next-generation platforms and solutions for the securities industry, presented by leading technology providers and financial solutions innovators. VNS
