HCM CITY — High technology, digital transformation, and scientific innovation are being robustly integrated into Việt Nam’s national defence strategies to boost maritime security and protect the country’s sea and island sovereignty.
The Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command on Thursday held a conference to announce the Chief of the General Staff of the Việt Nam People’s Army’s decision to establish an Unmanned Vehicle Platoon under its Staff Department.
During the conference, a representative of the Staff Department announced the official decision and presented personnel appointments for the newly established platoon.
Speaking at the conference, Senior Colonel Cao Vũ Long emphasised that the establishment of the Unmanned Vehicle Platoon marks a crucial step forward in building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern Coast Guard force.
He noted that the unit will play a pivotal role in enhancing reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities, monitoring maritime situations, as well as collecting and transmitting data to support command activities and law enforcement at sea.
He asked the platoon to swiftly stabilise its organisational structure, maintain strict discipline, and formulate effective training plans to master the newly assigned equipment and technology.
Long also encouraged continuous research and application of scientific and technological advancements to maximise operational efficiency.
Furthermore, he called for strengthened coordination with relevant forces during joint operations, including maritime patrols, inspections, search and rescue operations, and managing emerging situations at sea.
Relevant agencies were tasked with providing adequate personnel, facilities, and technical equipment to enable the platoon to operate at full capacity.
According to the Coast Guard Region No 3 Command, the establishment of the platoon demonstrates the keen attention of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Việt Nam Coast Guard towards advancing technological integration, scientific application, and digital transformation into defense tasks, in line with the Politburo's Resolution No 57-NQ/TW on strategic breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
This initiative will significantly enhance the overall strength and combat readiness of the command in safeguarding national sovereignty, maintaining security, order, and safety across sea areas in the new era. — VNS
