ĐÀ NẴNG — Australian non-governmental organisation Lifestart Foundation, in partnership with the Đà Nẵng City Union of Friendship Organisations, has implemented a housing support project to assist families affected by natural disasters in mountainous Trà Giáp Commune in the central city.

Many households in the commune, which is home mostly to Ca Dong and Cor ethnic groups, were completely destroyed or left structurally unsafe by severe natural disasters in late 2025.

Most affected families are poor or near-poor and lack the funds to repair their homes.

Lifestart Foundation provided a total of VNĐ187 million (approximately US$7,436) to support essential home repairs for 11 vulnerable households.

The support also included kitchen renovations for four households, bathroom facility upgrades for four households and roof repairs for three households, improving safety and overall living conditions.

“This housing repair initiative is part of Lifestart Foundation’s broader efforts to support communities recovering from natural disasters,” said Karen Leonard OAM, founder of Lifestart Foundation.

“We hope this support will provide safer homes and help families regain stability, rebuild their livelihoods and feel more secure during future storm seasons.”

The project forms part of Lifestart Foundation’s wider disaster recovery response following the major floods in 2025.

The NGO provided VNĐ104 million (about $4,000) in emergency relief to families of students within its education scholarship programme, helping them address urgent needs and begin rebuilding their lives shortly after the floods.

In recent years, Lifestart Foundation has consistently supported communities in remote mountainous areas, including clean water filtration systems, essential supplies for disadvantaged students, bicycles, essential goods and blankets worth a total of VNĐ500 million ($20,000).

Lifestart Foundation awarded 18 scholarships to university students, medical residents and postgraduate students in medical and health-related fields, with a total value of up to VNĐ3 billion ($114,000) in March 2026.

The foundation plans to continue supporting the construction and repair of homes for families affected by floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

“Our projects are designed not only to meet immediate needs but also to create sustainable long-term impact for future generations.” — VNS
