Nine killed, 16 injured in sleeper bus crash on Hà Tĩnh’s National Highway 1

HÀ TĨNH — Nine people were killed and 16 others injured when a sleeper bus overturned in the early hours of Friday, on National Highway 1 in Hà Tĩnh Province.

The crash occurred at around 1:45am in Sông Trí Ward, Kỳ Anh Town.

The bus, bearing licence plate 43F-007.76, was travelling from Hà Nội to Đà Nẵng when it veered off the road, hit roadside markers, and overturned.

The driver, identified as Lê Ngọc Thành, 35, from Thanh Hóa Province, tested negative for alcohol and drugs, according to police.

The vehicle was badly damaged in the crash. Rescue teams were deployed promptly to assist victims and manage the scene.

Fifteen of the injured passengers are being treated at Kỳ Anh Town General Hospital, while one has been transferred to Hà Tĩnh Provincial General Hospital.

Authorities have confirmed the identities of the nine people who died, including two children. Most were from northern provinces.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. — VNS
