HCM CITY — Three regional general hospitals being built at the entrances to HCM City will open to patients this year, according to the municipal Department of Health.
Being built at a cost of more than VNĐ5.6 trillion (US$221.9 million) by the city, they are meant to improve healthcare services in outlying districts and reduce overloading at major city public hospitals.
A hospital each in Thủ Đức and Hóc Môn districts will be inaugurated in April on the occasion of the 50th National Reunification Day (April 30).
The 1,000-bed Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital in the northeastern gateway costing VNĐ1.91 trillion ($75.7 million) will serve people in the area and in neighbouring provinces such as Bình Dương and Đồng Nai.
The 700-bed Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital in the northwest gateway will cost VNĐ1.89 trillion ($74.9 million). It will have several departments that will be moved from the old Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital.
Located not far away will be the Củ Chi Regional General Hospital to be inaugurated in September to mark the 80th National Day (September 2).
The 1,000-bed hospital will cost more than VNĐ1.85 trillion ($73.3 million).
For buying medical equipment for the three new hospitals, the city will allocate a total of VNĐ4.3 trillion ($170.6 million).
Nguyễn Hoài Nam, deputy director of the department, said the hospitals would help improve the quality of treatment for people in the city and southern provinces and reduce overloading at major public hospitals. — VNS
