Quảng Trị receives endangered stump-tailed macaque

QUẢNG TRỊ — The Cam Lộ–Đông Hà forest protection unit in the central province of Quảng Trị has received a rare stump-tailed macaque, a species listed as endangered, precious and rare in the Việt Nam Red Data Book.

The macaque, weighing about 3kg, was discovered after straying into the DK4 reserve warehouse in area KV9, under the management of the agricultural reserve sub-department No 9. Upon detection, warehouse staff promptly informed local authorities.

The rare macaque is handed over to the local forest protection unit.

According to forest rangers, the animal is scientifically known as Macaca arctoides.

After being handed over, it underwent a health check and is currently being cared for and rehabilitated in accordance with regulations. — VNA/VNS
