ĐÀ NẴNG – Tragedy struck an eight-member family in Điện Bàn Tây Commune, 30km south of Đà Nẵng City, on the afternoon of October 28, when one member died and seven others were rushed to medical centres and hospitals for treatment after suffering suffocation at home.

The city’s Storm and Flood Prevention Centre reported that the family had been sleeping in living rooms while using air conditioners powered by generator-driven electricity during a blackout caused by flood-affected main power lines.

Local rescue and medical teams were called to provide first aid before transporting family members to nearby hospitals in Đà Nẵng, but one member later died at the hospital.

The centre said T.V.C, 51, from Điện Bàn Bắc Commune, went missing after a boat carrying him and another person capsized during fishing in floodwaters.

Rescue forces managed to save one man from the accident, but T.V.C was swept away by the strong current.

Two pregnant women living in the flooded quarters were safely taken to medical centres by speedboats.
