HÀ NỘI — A series of major industrial projects in the coal and shipbuilding sectors were launched and inaugurated on December 19 as part of nationwide activities celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, underscoring continued investment in energy security, industrial capacity and workforce infrastructure.

In Quảng Ninh Province, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation Limited (TKV) simultaneously broke ground on two strategic projects with a combined investment exceeding VNĐ2 trillion (US$76 million).

The first is the construction of a residential complex for employees of Khe Cham Coal Company – TKV in Mông Dương Ward.

Designed with one basement level, 11 above-ground floors and a rooftop structure, the building will provide approximately 20,580 square metres of floor space and accommodate 360 self-contained apartments.

The project includes synchronised technical infrastructure such as internal roads, water supply and drainage, power systems, lighting, fire prevention and firefighting facilities, as well as green spaces and landscaping to ensure safe and modern living conditions for workers.

With a total investment of more than VNĐ237 billion, construction is scheduled to take place from 2025 to 2027.

According to Khe Cham Coal Company director Lê Đình Dương, the project was developed in response to practical housing needs for miners and the company's long-term sustainable development orientation.

All legal procedures, including investment approval, land documentation, feasibility study appraisal, fire safety approval, design validation and contractor selection, were completed in accordance with regulations to ensure the project commenced on schedule.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, TKV deputy general director Trần Hải Bình said the group currently manages and operates 48 collective housing areas in Quảng Ninh, providing nearly 3,200 apartments for more than 12,300 workers.

He noted that TKV is orienting worker housing development toward closed-apartment models for single occupants, meeting standardised space and amenity requirements while integrating communal, sports and green areas.

The Khe Chàm project was identified as a representative development aligned with this direction.

On the same day, TKV also launched the Đồng Vông underground coal mining project at Uong Bi Coal Company – TKV. With a total investment of nearly VNĐ1.84 trillion and a designed capacity of 600,000 tonnes of raw coal per year, the project is intended to apply advanced mining technologies toward the model of a green, clean, modern and low-labour mine.

TKV general director Vũ Anh Tuấn said that extensive legal preparation and coordinated support from central and local authorities enabled the project to proceed. Once operational, expected in 2028, the Đồng Vông mine will supply coal to the economy, contribute to the state and provincial budgets and generate stable employment with relatively high incomes for local workers.

Meanwhile, in the shipbuilding sector, Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) and Pha Rung Shipyard on Friday held an inauguration ceremony for the 13,000-DWT oil and chemical tanker BS-DAESAN.

The vessel is one of 234 key projects nationwide launched or completed to mark the Party Congress and is part of a series of specialised tankers built for South Korea's BS Shipping Co., Ltd.

Constructed at Pha Rung Shipyard over nearly 20 months, the vessel has a total contract value of VNĐ721 billion, of which more than VNĐ143.5 billion was executed by the shipyard.

SBIC chairman Phạm Hoài Chung said each vessel delivered represents not only production and business results but also the credibility, brand value and responsibility of state-owned enterprises in advancing Việt Nam's shipbuilding and maritime industries.

He emphasised that sustainable development of the shipbuilding sector plays a role in safeguarding economic and energy security while promoting trade and strengthening the country's maritime standing.

Throughout construction, the project was implemented with strict control over quality, schedule and occupational safety, meeting technical, aesthetic and maritime legal requirements.

Pha Rung Shipyard General Director Vũ Hữu Chiến reported that in 2025 the company completed its assigned production and business targets within the first ten months, achieving 128 per cent of planned revenue and output.

During the year, the shipyard delivered two chemical tankers, conducted export and repair services for more than 90 vessels and created hundreds of jobs for local workers.

Representing the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, director Lê Đỗ Mười praised SBIC and Pha Rung Shipyard for their persistent efforts, disciplined working practices and close coordination among designers, supervisors and classification bodies to ensure the vessel fully met technical standards prior to delivery.

The inauguration of BS-DAESAN was described as an important milestone in the implementation of a ten-vessel strategic cooperation programme for 13,000-DWT oil and chemical tankers with South Korean partners. — BIZHUB/VNS
