HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Đức Phớc has approved the allocation of savings from the 2024 budget to support efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing for poor and near-poor households.
Under the plan, VNĐ509.7 billion (US$19.97 million) from 5 per cent savings in the 2024 Central budget will be directed to seven localities as targeted support.
Additionally, over VNĐ1 trillion in unspent savings from 28 localities will be redistributed to 16 others facing funding shortfalls, while nearly VNĐ1 trillion more will be transferred from eight localities to assist 15 others in need.
The Ministry of Finance and the Central Steering Committee’s standing agency, now overseeing the nationwide programme to eliminate makeshift housing, will be responsible for implementation, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Localities that have met their financial needs but still hold unspent savings from the 5 per cent expenditure cut must transfer the surplus to a designated State Treasury account by March 20. The State Treasury will then redistribute the funds based on the reallocation plan.
The funding will support impoverished and near-poor households in constructing or repairing homes.
According to the Prime Minister’s directive, the Government will provide VNĐ60 million per newly built house and VNĐ30 million per repaired house.
The process must be carried out efficiently, ensuring timely support and preventing mismanagement, waste or misuse of funds. — VNS
