Just an hour's drive from Hà Nội, Hà Nam promises to be a must-visit destination for those who love exploring local culture. The province has been nominated as 'Asia's Leading Emerging Tourism Destination'.

In 2023, Hà Nam surpassed many world-renowned destinations, including Gjirokastër (Albania), Kathmandu Valley (Nepal) and Oaxaca (Mexico), to be named the 'World's Leading Regional Cultural Destination' by the World Travel Awards (WTA).

Recently, Hà Nam continued its impressive journey by making it onto the nomination list of the 31st World Travel Awards for Asia and Oceania region in two categories: 'Asia's Leading Emerging Tourism Destination' and 'Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination'.

It's no coincidence that a destination that has flown somewhat under the radar, compared to northern Việt Nam's top tourist attractions, such as Hạ Long and Sa Pa, has caught the attention of those giving out these awards, known as the Oscars of the global tourism industry.

Hà Nam's allure lies in its rich historical and cultural heritage, nestled within a tranquil and pristine natural landscape, making it a unique and captivating destination.

The province is home to numerous ancient pagodas that exude a peaceful and serene beauty, some of which have stood for over a thousand years, reflecting the spiritual core of northern Việt Nam and attracting millions of visitors on pilgrimages every year.

The Long Đọi Sơn Pagoda Complex in Tiên Sơn Commune, Duy Tiên District, is one of the most famous sites in the former Sơn Nam region, with a long history reflecting a flourishing period of Buddhism in the nation’s history.

Despite the many historical changes, the pagoda has preserved its ancient and sacred ambience, embodying the architectural and artistic styles of the Lý Dynasty. The site is also home to the precious Sùng Thiện Diên Linh stele, a national treasure that provides valuable historical insights.

Another spiritual destination that has become a hot spot in Hà Nam is Địa Tạng Phi Lai Pagoda, also known as Đùng Pagoda.

Nearly 1,000 years old, the pagoda, after restoration, offers a blend of ancient charm and poetic beauty amidst a serene and peaceful environment.

The Tam Chúc Spiritual Tourism Complex is also a must-visit attraction in Hà Nam, likened to a terrestrial Hạ Long Bay with its ancient architecture and tranquil setting amidst majestic mountains and clear lakes.

Another cultural and spiritual destination that cannot be missed when coming to Hà Nam is the Sở Kiện Basilica, which is 140 years old. It is one of only four churches in Việt Nam bestowed with the title of minor basilica - a title specially honoured by the Pope for churches with grand, ancient architecture that hold historical and spiritual significance.

Visitors to the basilica are often struck by its ancient and solemn atmosphere, reminiscent of a romantic European corner.

In addition, Hà Nam boasts many other centuries-old temples and pagodas, including Bà Đanh Pagoda, Phật Quang Pagoda, Lảnh Giang Temple, Trần Thương Temple, Bầu Pagoda, Đặng Xá Pagoda, Trinh Tiết Pagoda, Tiên Pagoda and Bát Cảnh Sơn - once home to eight pagodas and a shrine worshipping local deities, arranged according to the principles of Bagua and the five elements. These sites offer visitors a rare chance to immerse themselves in the tranquil, ancient atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.

Moreover, Hà Nam is known for its untouched natural landscapes, which showcase the beauty of mountains, forests and rivers. Key natural attractions include Ao Dong, a majestic natural canvas created by towering mountains and lush forests, Luồn Cave, where visitors can drift along on boats to marvel at the unique shapes of the stalactites, Phúc Long Cave, with a dragon-shaped cave in harmony with the surrounding landscape and Ngọc Mountain, a peaceful, green limestone mountain by the tranquil Đáy River.

Hà Nam is not just a destination rich in ancient cultural layers, it is also on its way to becoming a bustling urban centre, with many large-scale projects in the future, supported by Sun Group.

The 'Era City' - Sun Urban City project, located just 50 km from Hà Nội, covers an area of 420 hectares and has an estimated investment of around VNĐ35 trillion. It will offer unprecedented amenities in Hà Nam, including Sun World Park, cultural, ecological, sports and festival parks.

Sun Urban City will introduce a suburban resort-style urban model with countless amenities, where the elderly and families can enjoy comprehensive healthcare services at specialised retirement homes and hospitals, in a vast space for walking and recreation. With top-level service amenities, this project promises to add a vibrant 'new coat' to this leading cultural destination.
