Khoa injured in 18th stage of HCM City cycling event

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Huỳnh Đăng Khoa of An Giang Plant Protection was injured in the 18th stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Tournament on Tuesday.

Khoa was injured when he pedalled at high speed on Vĩnh Hy Mountain Pass in Ninh Thuận Province. A number of cyclists were involved in collisions.

According to Lê Thanh Liêm of An Giang team, Khoa sustained multiple injuries to his neck, chest, shoulder and arms and was unable to compete in following stages.

Khoa now ranks third in the race for the white jersey as the best young cyclist.

Meanwhile, Lê Nguyệt Minh triumphed in the 129km stage from Nha Trang City of Khánh Hòa Province to Phan Rang – Tháp Chàm City of Ninh Thuận Province, completing it in a time of 3:11.30 with an average speed of 40.418km/h.

Minh also held onto the green jersey as the best sprinter. While Nguyễn Thành Tâm, runner-up in the 18th stage, won the yellow jersey for the best overall time.

The red jersey as the King of Mountain belonged to France’s Loic Desriac of Bike Life Đồng Nai.

On April 18, cyclists from 13 domestic teams will take part in the 19th stage from Phan Rang to Đà Lạt, over a distance of 127km. — VNS
