HÀ NỘI — HCM City defeated Tràng An Ninh Bình 3-2 in the first round of Group B at the National Volleyball Championship on Sunday.
The game was held in Gia Lâm District’s Gymnasium in Hà Nội. HCM City won 25-23, 23-25, 33-31, 17-21, 15-10.
Notably, Tràng An Ninh Bình have three national players - Nguyễn Xuân Thành, Giang Văn Đức and Nguyễn Hoàng Thương - who played at the Asian Volleyball Championship last year in which Việt Nam ranked 10th for the first time.
The team’s former national player, Nguyễn Văn Hạnh, was judged the best player in the game.
HCM City team do not have any national players at the national ongoing event.
Meanwhile, in the northern province of Hải Dương’s Gymnasium, Lienvietpostbank beat Mikado Thái Bình 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-20) in the first round of Group A.
The event, in which 10 male teams and 10 female teams across the country are participating, will give away a total prize of VNĐ432 million (US$18,780).
The winners and runners-up in each group will earn tickets to compete for the Hùng Vương Cup, which will be held in the northern province of Phú Thọ from April 24-27.
The second round of the championship will be organised from December 25-28 this year. — VNS
