Vietnamese win golds at Asian Games for children

Wrestlers pocketed one gold and one bronze medal after the third day of competition yesterday at the sixth Children of Asia International Sports Games in Russia’s Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

HÀ NỘI — Wrestlers pocketed one gold and one bronze medal after the third day of competition yesterday at the sixth Children of Asia International Sports Games in Russia’s Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

So far, Việt Nam’s 55 competitors have earned three golds and one bronze at the games, competing in six out of 22 events against athletes from 38 teams.

Lục Lệ Giang triumphed in the girls’ 34kg wrestling category and Nguyễn Thị Phượng was third in the girls’ 40kg class yesterday.

Earlier, swimmers bagged two gold medals.

Huỳnh Mẫn Đạt won in the boys’ 200m butterfly event with a time of 2min 4.20sec.

Nguyễn Huy Hoàng triumphed in the boys’ 1,500m freestyle, clocking 15:55.02.

Two other Vietnamese also took part in the swimming competition but could not make the top three.

Nguyễn Lê Phương Thảo ranked fifth in the girls’ 200m backstroke and Đỗ Thành Thuận was 10th in the boys’ 1,500m freestyle.
