HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese men's volleyball team triumphed over New Zealand in their opening match, securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the AVC Nations Cup in Bahrain on Wednesday.
Việt Nam are in Group D with South Korea and New Zealand, competing in a round-robin format for the top two spots in the quarter-finals.
Earlier, New Zealand lost 0-3 to South Korea in their opening match, meaning the Vietnamese team only needed to win against New Zealand to advance.
As anticipated, Việt Nam delivered an impressive performance, defeating New Zealand 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-15).
In this match, the Vietnamese team effectively exploited their opponent's early weaknesses, establishing a dominant position.
With their early advancement to the quarter-finals, the Vietnamese team will face South Korea in a match to determine the top spot in Group D.
This marks the third consecutive participation of the Vietnamese team in the AVC Nations Cup. In 2023, they finished in fourth place, followed by a sixth place finish the subsequent year. — VNS
