HCM CITY — Việt Nam will meet Thailand in the final of the ASEAN U19 Women’s Championship at Thống Nhất Stadium in HCM City on Wednesday.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, Việt Nam secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Indonesia, to tee up the final against their big regional rivals.

During the semi, coach Okiyama Masahiko deployed an optimal lineup that enabled his team to dominate the game. The home team’s midfield controlled possession, disrupting the Indonesian players' cohesion and forcing them into a defensive struggle. Despite their physical strength, Indonesia could not withstand Việt Nam's relentless attacks.

This will be Việt Nam's third appearance in the ASEAN U19 Women’s Championship final, having faced Thailand in the previous two finals without a victory. Coach Masahiko acknowledged the challenge ahead:

"I did not come to Việt Nam last year, but I watched the match and know the result," he said.

"Our goal remains the championship. Facing the same opponent makes this match even more difficult. While the outcome is uncertain, one thing is clear: Việt Nam will give their all to deliver an exciting match."

Thai U19 women's team coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian said: "Fortunately, we have no injured players and are ready for the match. Việt Nam is a strong team, and we have studied them carefully. Competing against the Vietnamese U19 women's team is a valuable experience. This match is more than just a challenge for us."

Assessing Việt Nam's defence, the defending champion's coach added: "The Vietnamese defenders played exceptionally well, presenting a significant challenge for us. It’s difficult to predict the chances of winning; it all depends on timing, so the chances are equal." — VNS
