BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — The military team brought home an impressive total of five gold, two silver and six bronze medals, securing first place overall at the first national beach Kurash championship held in Vũng Tàu city from March 12 to 13.
The Hà Nội team claimed second place with two gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Meanwhile, the host team, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province, finished third with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
The event took place at the Revolutionary Traditional House of Vũng Tàu City in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province, featuring intense competition across multiple weight categories.
This year’s tournament brings together nearly 300 coaches and athletes from 19 teams nationwide, competing across 19 weight categories.
Throughout the two-day competition, athletes delivered thrilling, high-level matches, showcasing their skills and determination.
The championship featured a wide range of weight categories from 50kg to over 100kg for men and 42kg to over 87kg for women.
The final rounds and closing ceremony, held on March 13, saw outstanding performances from male athletes competing in the -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, and +100kg categories, alongside female athletes in the -42kg, -45kg, -48kg, -52kg, and -57kg categories.
On March 12, medals were awarded to winners in earlier men's weight categories, including -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, -87kg, and +87kg.
The final matches were especially electrifying, with enthusiastic support from spectators and visitors.
The event served as a platform to promote the vibrant and welcoming image of Vũng Tàu city and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province.
Organisers ensured top-notch facilities, including an internationally standardised sand arena, providing optimal conditions for the athletes.
The event also contributed to the growth of Kurash in Việt Nam, reinforcing the country’s potential for hosting future beach sports events.
It was organised by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Việt Nam under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. — VNS
