HÀ NỘI -- Judo martial artist Hoàng Thị Tình has been the next Vietnamese athlete to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024 this July.

Tình was one of three key judokas of Việt Nam hunting their first time at the global largest sport competition in the last three years

On June 21, she successfully earned gold at the Lima Panamerican Open 2024 in Peru.

The SEA Games champion defeated Diaz Martina of Chile and Solis Jacqueline of Guatemala to advance to the final match of the women's 48kg category.

Tình, world No 98, continued her peak form to beat No 43 Mauritius Priscilla Morand by an ippon after an effective submission to take gold medal.

The victory gave her 100 points in the Race to Paris ranking and it was enough for Tình to officially secure her spot in Paris this summer.

The Lima Panamerican Open was the last tournament that gave points to athletes for their Olympic qualification. It meant that Tình would be the sole representative in judo in Paris and the third judoka of Việt Nam to take part in Olympics in history. The other two athletes were Văn Ngọc Tú twice in London 2012 and Rio 2016, and Nguyễn Thị Thanh Thủy in Tokyo 2020.

Việt Nam Judo Federation President Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng after announcing the good news to local media decided to deliver a VNĐ30 million bonus to Tình and VNĐ20 million to coach Nguyễn Duy Khánh for their great effort.

Tình is the 13th Vietnamese Olympic qualifier.

The 12 other are cyclist Nguyễn Thị Thật, swimmer Nguyễn Huy Hoàng, shooters Trịnh Thu Vinh and Lê Thị Mộng Tuyền, weightlifter Trịnh Văn Vinh, boxers Võ Thị Kim Ánh and Hà Thị Linh, rower Phạm Thị Huệ, canoeist Nguyễn Thị Hương, badminton players Nguyễn Thùy Linh and Lê Đức Phát, and archer Lê Quốc Phong.
