HCM CITY -- Many talented fighters have been discovered at the first Southern Region Youth Kickboxing Championship 2024, which closed on June 20 in HCM City.
The new talent included Trần Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc in the girls' 50kg, 15-16 years old category and Võ Huy Hoàng in the boys' 46kg, 17-18 year class, along with Nguyễn Võ Đăng Khoa in the boys' 54kg, 15-16 age group of Tây Ninh.
"Despite their youth, they have showed good technique from punches to kicks and their physique is also remarkable," said Đàm Công Điền, official of Boxing and Kickboxing Department of the Sports Authority of Việt Nam.
"These athletes will be nurtured intensively to serve the national teams."
The tournament was organised by the Việt Nam Kickboxing Federation and the City's Sports Training Centre.
Nearly 220 athletes from 22 delegations took part in different age categories ranging from 13 to 18.
The tournament was also a way to review the development of kickboxing in the Southern province and map out plans to push the local movement forward.
It was also a warm-up ahead of the National Youth Kickboxing Championship in July in Bình Định Province. VNS
