Vietnamese, Chinese anglers compete in sport fishing friendly

HÀ NỘI -- A fishing tournament featuring Vietnamese and Chinese anglers in taking place at the MIDI Fishing Club in Thủ Đức, HCM City.

As many as 30 Chinese competitors joined nearly 70 from Việt Nam in the event from June 21-24 as part of international cooperation between Viêt Nam and Guangxi Province's sport fishing associations. 

This competition is the second of six planned in Việt Nam and China.

Anglers compete for medals in individual and team categories. Participants are divided into a group of eight for four rounds of 70 minutes with two different sizes of fishing rods.

The top 12 will take part in team event under the match-play format. The winners will receive bonuses of up to VNĐ200 million from the organisers.

Vietnamese anglers with the best results will secure their places at the national championship.

National bronze medallist Trịnh Minh Khoa said: "I have improved a lot and learn many new things by taking part in tournaments. This time, I have opportunity to interact and chat with many Chinese athletes who come from one of the most developed sport fishing countries in Asia.

"We can exchange expertise, techniques, and experiences. I also learned a lot of experience in organising, managing, and operating the tournament, which can be applied to Vietnamese clubs.

"We all are interested in learning about the culture, language and especially traditional cuisine of China and Việt Nam. The tournament has brought me many unforgettable experiences."

Việt Nam Sport Fishing Association Chairman Nguyễn Quang Anh added: "The sport fishing movement is growing strongly across the country and athletes' demand to participate in national tournaments is on the rise.

"The association decides to hold not only domestic but also international competitions to push the level of Vietnamese players and look towards international integration."

From now until the end of the year, international friendly matches will continue to take place such as the 2024 Quang Uy Cup national championship, national club cup and MIDI Cup. VNS
