HÀ NỘI -- Two Vietnamese boxers who are heading to the Olympics, will have an intensive training camp in France ahead of the Paris Games.

Võ Thị Kim Ánh and teammate Hà Thị Linh, under coach Nguyễn Như Cường and Thai expert Tawan Mungphingklang, will begin their training course at the Omnisports de Vittel from early July, part of their preparations for hopefully getting the best results at the world's biggest contest this summer.

Ánh earned a slot in the women's 54kg category at the first Olympic qualification tournament in Italy in March.

“I feel like I still have a lot to improve, especially in terms of physical strength and reflexes in competition," Ánh said. "Hopefully, under the guidance of experts and coaches, I will be able to overcome these limitations and perfect myself to compete well and bring achievements home in upcoming important tournaments, especially the 2024 Olympics."

Linh meanwhile qualified in the women's 60kg class, in the second qualifier last month in Thailand.

Omnisports de Vittel Preparation Centre is located to the north east of Paris and is exclusively for female athletes around the world who have won places at the Olympics, across many disciplines.

With a favourable climate, modern and comfortable training conditions for many sports, the centre attracts athletes from weightlifting, athletics, boxing, golf, rugby, riding, tennis and aquatics.

The Việt Nam team's training course will begin on July 5 and end on July 20, after which they will move to the Paris Olympic Village, about six days before the Games' opening ceremony.

At the Tokyo Games in 2021, Việt Nam also fielded two competitors, but they did not enjoy success, however this time around boxing is considered one of key sports for the Vietnamese sporting community and they are hoping for medals. VNS
