HÀ NỘI — Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be used for the first time in the 2024 national second division football tournament, for both matches in the final round, the Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) has announced.

According to the VFF, the decision has been approved by FIFA, with strict compliance to the necessary technical standards.

The move is considered an important step to improving the quality of referee decisions and to ensure fairness and impartiality in matches and has received enthusiastic support from fans.

According to the schedule, the finals of the 2024 national second division will begin this evening in Hà Tĩnh Province. The two top teams will earn the right to participate in the national first division in the 2024/25 season.

VAR technology has been welcomed as a way of making the referee's decisions more accurate, bringing fairness to matches and minimising errors. Successfully used in many major tournaments around the world, it is already in operation in the V.League 1 2023/24. VNS
