HÀ NỘI -- Việt Nam topped the medal board at the Southeast Asian Judo and Championships.

The athletes brought home 12 gold medals including two in the kata (performance) event from the competition, which closed on June 2 in Indonesia.

At this year's tournament organisers also held competitions for junior athletes, aged from 15-20 and they took home eight golds.

Both senior and junior fighters also secured 15 silvers and 28 bronzes.

The regional championship featured 250 athletes from eight countries, competing from May 30 to June 2.

The Việt Nam Judo Federation President Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, said that all the teams had showed remarkable power and progress and they had worked hard ahead of this year's fights.

However he added that Vietnamese competitors could still prove themselves even stronger and he hoped that they would grab even better results in the future. VNS
