18th person dies of COVID-19 complications

A woman has died of COVID-19 related complications in Đà Nẵng, the 18th person to succumb to coronavirus in Việt Nam.

ĐÀ NẴNG — A woman has died of COVID-19 related complications in Đà Nẵng, the 18th person to succumb to coronavirus in Việt Nam.

The 52-year-old, from Cẩm Lệ in the central city, had a number of underlying health issues, including end-stage chronic renal failure, hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

The death was announced Thursday morning by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyễn Trường Sơn.

From July 15 the woman was being treated at the Department of Urology, Đà Nẵng Hospital. On July 31 she was transferred to Đà Nẵng Lung Hospital where she tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

The following day she began to suffer from shortness of breath and respiratory failure so was transferred to the Department of Tropical Medicine at Đà Nẵng Hospital but quickly moved again to Hoà Vang Medical Center.

The woman then slipped into a coma and never woke up. She was pronounced dead on Wednesday August 12 at 7pm.

The cause of death has been recorded as COVID-19 complicates severe pneumonia in patients with end-stage chronic renal failure, hypertension and type 2 diabetes. — VNS
