TUYÊN QUANG — A teacher of the Tuyên Quang High School for Gifted Students was detained on Sunday evening by the provincial police as part of an investigation into the national high‑school graduation examination results.

The teacher, Nguyễn Hà Duy, 28, is alleged to be connected to the scores of the 2026 National High‑School Graduation Examination held at the Tuyên Quang High School for Gifted Students.

The investigation was launched after information circulated on social media regarding the unusually high number of perfect scores (10) in mathematics in the locality.

According to the 2026 National High‑School Graduation Examination results released by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), nearly 17,600 candidates in Tuyên Quang took the mathematics paper, of whom 154 achieved a perfect score of 10.

Notably, as many as 147 of those perfect‑score papers came from students of Tuyên Quang High School for Gifted Students.

Ministry’s review

Initially, the MoET working group in Tuyên Quang found no irregularities in the printing, duplication, transportation, or storage of exam papers, nor in the marking process.

However, after analysing the data and conducting a preliminary verification, the group concluded that the mathematics results at the examination center located at Tuyên Quang High School for Gifted Students were anomalous and warranted further investigation, particularly regarding invigilation at the venue.

Last Thursday, the MoET established a working group to inspect and verify issues related to the mathematics examination results in the province.

The team comprises representatives from the MoET and the Ministry of Public Security, and operates under guidance of Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Phạm Ngọc Thưởng, who is head of the National Steering Committee for the 2026 National High‑School Graduation Examination.

The working group reviewed records on invigilation and marking, inspected procedures for storing and grading examination scripts and multiple‑choice answer sheets, cross‑checked scanned data against candidates’ answer sheets, analysed and compared exam results with students’ academic records, and requested written reports from relevant individuals regarding the performance of their assigned duties.

The MoET instructed the provincial Examination Steering Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of all stages of exam administration, take strict action against any confirmed violations, and provide timely public updates once the official verification results are available. — VNS
